US President Donald Trump announced on July 17 that he accepted the conclusion of US intelligence agencies that Russia interfered in the 2016 US presidential election, despite denying it a day earlier.

According to BBC, the head of the White House said that on July 16, he had made an inaccurate statement and that he saw no reason why Russia would not interfere in the US election.

This is the only time during his presidency that Mr. Trump has admitted a mistake.

President Donald Trump reverses statement on Russia.

The head of the White House said that returning to the US after the summit with President Putin in Helsinki, Finland, he realized the need to clarify the statement on the issue of Russia's interference in the 2016 US election.

Earlier, in a joint press conference with President Putin after the US-Russia summit, Mr. Trump asserted that Russia had no reason to interfere in the US election two years ago. This statement caused Mr. Trump to be strongly criticized by both the Republican and Democratic parties.

“I accept the conclusion of the intelligence community that Russia interfered in the election two years ago,” the US president added, but Trump insisted that the interference had no impact.
