On July 17, US President Donald Trump declared that he accepted the conclusions of US intelligence agencies that Russia interfered in the 2016 US presidential election, despite denying it the day before.

According to the BBC, the White House chief said that his statement on July 16th was inaccurate and that he meant to say he saw no reason why Russia shouldn't interfere in the US elections.

This was the only time during his presidency that Trump admitted to making a mistake.

President Donald Trump reversed his statement about Russia.

The White House chief said that upon returning to the US after a summit with President Putin in Helsinki, Finland, he felt it necessary to clarify his statement regarding Russian interference in the 2016 US election.

Earlier, in a joint press conference with President Putin following the US-Russia summit, Trump asserted that Russia had no reason to interfere in the US election two years ago. This statement drew strong criticism from both Republicans and Democrats.

The US President added: "I accept the intelligence community's conclusion that Russia interfered in the election two years ago." However, Trump insisted that this interference had no impact.
