"I have some serious ideas about Syria. I think what's happening now (in Syria) is terrible… Thousands of people are dying… I think it's a real shame. And we should do something about Syria. I've spoken to Putin, in fact, you know he called me," — the future American leader said during a meeting with New York Times journalists.
According to him, it would have been "a good thing" that the United States "had actually made a deal with the Russian Federation" and "jointly fought ISIS." The American politician emphasized that the fight against ISIS "is not only dangerous, but also costly." "We should solve the problem, otherwise we will have to keep fighting," Trump said, noting that his views on Syria differ from those of many American politicians. He considered US intervention in the conflict to be "a terrible mistake."
