According to a report from The Information on Wednesday, ChatGPT maker OpenAI nearly doubled its revenue in the first seven months of this year, reaching $12 billion in annual revenue. Reuters could not immediately confirm the report, and OpenAI declined to comment.
This figure implies that OpenAI is generating $1 billion per month. The report also states that the company has approximately 700 million weekly active users for its ChatGPT products, used by both consumers and enterprise clients.
The Microsoft-backed company has raised its cash spending forecast to approximately $8 billion by 2025, an increase of $1 billion from its earlier forecast this year, according to The Information.
OpenAI is attracting investors for the second phase of its $30 billion funding round. Reports indicate that shareholders Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global Management are investing hundreds of millions of dollars in this round.
In addition to Japan's SoftBank (9984.T), investors are close to finalizing a $7.5 billion commitment for that second funding round. The Japanese conglomerate has agreed to a total of $32 billion in investments in OpenAI since its initial investment in the fall of 2024.
