In a statement, the law firm Mossack Fonseca said that they had digitized all documents, so the torn pieces of paper that police took from the company's office were simply paper sent for recycling.

The law firm also stated that, during a previous search, investigators had obtained copies of all the documents discovered on April 22nd.

The Panama Papers leak, involving the Mossack Fonseca law firm, has brought many world leaders to their knees, as the information it contained exposed numerous shady offshore accounts.

Meanwhile, the Mossack Fonseca law firm has consistently maintained that it did not violate the law, did not destroy any documents, and that all of its activities were legal.

Following the leak of over 11.5 million documents from Mossack Fonseca, governments in many countries have begun investigating financial fraud by the wealthy and powerful.
