Patriot cannot operate when Il-22PP is in combat

As soon as the West increased E-3 Sentry to Türkiye, Russia immediately deployed Il-22PP - the type of aircraft that can render the Patriot system useless.

According to Western military sources, at the end of October 2016, NATO decided to deploy 16 E-3 airborne early warning and control aircraft (AWACS) to Türkiye.

These aircraft only need to fly in international or Turkish airspace to be able to monitor all aircraft activities in Syria. However, this is not easy, because the Russian air force has equipment to neutralize NATO's reconnaissance capabilities.

The Russian Air Force has received the first three Ilyushin II-22PP Porubschik aircraft equipped with upgraded jamming equipment capable of disabling electronic systems on enemy aircraft, Gazeta.ru reported.

These aircraft passed national testing in September 2016.

According to information made public by the Russian Air Force, the Il-22PP aircraft is equipped with an on-board electronic system specially designed to deal with modern AWACS systems, ground-based air defense systems (such as the US MIM-104 Patriot), and manned and unmanned aircraft.

The Il-22PP has a frequency filter, meaning it will not interfere with "friendly" radio electronic systems. The aircraft has a range of up to 6,500km at an altitude of 8,800m and a speed of up to 685km/h.

In addition to its jamming capabilities, the Il-22PP can also conduct electronic intelligence operations and protect friendly aircraft from enemy electronic warfare equipment. The Il-22PP will replace the Il-20M electronic signals reconnaissance aircraft and operate in parallel with Russia's newly developed Tu-214R reconnaissance aircraft.

The Tu-214R's capabilities include electronic intelligence, signals intelligence and communications intelligence. The aircraft's antenna is capable of intercepting signals from all types of devices, from aircraft, combat vehicles to mobile phones, and can establish electronic warfare orders (EOB). The Tu-214R underwent state trials this year.

With Russia's deployment of the Il-22PP, no matter how many modern AWACS aircraft NATO uses, spying on Syria will never be easy for them.
