Breaking up a 7 billion VND football betting case in Nghe An

On the morning of July 2, Lieutenant Colonel Bui Van Ngoc - Deputy Head of Yen Thanh District Police said that this unit had just successfully broken up a gambling case in the form of football betting, arrested 7 subjects, and initially clarified the amount of 7 billion VND in transactions.soccer betting

Previously, from the beginning of June 2021, through the work of grasping the situation, Yen Thanh District Police discovered a gambling ring in the form of football betting led by Ngo Van Thinh (born in 1996), residing in Hamlet 8, Dien Yen Commune, Dien Chau District. After verifying signs of Ngo Van Thinh's criminal activities, Yen Thanh District Police established a special project to fight and eradicate it.

The investigation team determined that the subjects had experience in committing crimes with extremely sophisticated forms and methods, frequently using the social network Zalo to communicate, changing phone numbers or meeting directly to discuss methods of operation, in order to avoid detection by the police.

The organizational structure and operating rules of this line were determined: Ngo Van Thinh was the mastermind, directly accessing the website Viva88.net to open an account to serve gambling in the form of football betting on many tournaments of many countries and tournaments of many continents.

After having an account to bet, Thinh directly linked with Nguyen The Tam (born in 1995), residing in Phuc Tho hamlet, Duc Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district and Vo Van Cuong (born in 1997), residing in Thi Tu hamlet, Tan Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district to act as agents to organize football betting for gamblers in Yen Thanh district (including Tan Thanh, Duc Thanh, Phu Thanh, Do Thanh communes). Then transferred all the betting money to Thinh to receive a percentage of the betting commission.

On June 27, 2021, after receiving information that the subjects were organizing gamblers in Yen Thanh district to participate in betting on football matches of the Euro 2020 European National Championship, the Task Force decided to "Crack the Case".

At about 4:00 a.m. on June 28, 2021, the Special Task Force organized 07 working groups, coordinated with Tan Thanh Commune Police (Yen Thanh), Dien Yen Commune Police (Dien Chau) to simultaneously arrest and urgently search the residences of 07 subjects who organized football betting, including: Ngo Van Thinh (born 1996), residing in Dien Yen Commune, Dien Chau District; Nguyen The Tam (born 1995); Vo Van Cuong (born 1997); Dang Van Nam (born 1995); Hoang Cong Dong (born 1984); Dang Viet Vuong (born 1993) and Trinh Thanh Binh (born 1990), all residing in Yen Thanh District.

Evidence seized included more than 100 million VND in cash, 09 mobile phones, 03 ATM cards, and 03 related bank accounts were frozen.

At the Investigation Agency, the subjects initially confessed to all gambling acts in the form of football betting. The investigation determined that from June 18, 2021 to June 28, 2021, Ngo Van Thinh organized gambling in the form of football betting through an account on the website Viva88.net with a total transaction amount for gambling of more than 7 billion VND.

Currently, the Yen Thanh District Police Investigation Agency is consolidating the case file and continuing to expand the investigation.
