Distinguishing genuine and fake goods and identifying counterfeit goods in the e-commerce environment
On the morning of September 25, the Nghe An Provincial Market Management Department coordinated with the Association for Anti-Counterfeiting and Protection of Intellectual Property Rights of Foreign-Invested Enterprises in Vietnam (VACIP) to organize a training conference on distinguishing genuine and counterfeit goods and identifying counterfeit goods in the e-commerce environment.
Participating in the training were representatives of the Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Science and Technology, Provincial Police, Provincial Border Guard Command, and Customs Branch of Region XI.

At the conference, members of the Association for Anti-Counterfeiting and Protection of Intellectual Property Rights of Foreign-Invested Enterprises in Vietnam (VACIP), and representatives of brands presented ways to identify and distinguish genuine and counterfeit goods of some brands. Delegates attending the training exchanged and asked questions about difficulties and obstacles in the implementation process.

The training conference aims to improve the capacity and expertise of officials and civil servants in anti-counterfeiting enforcement in the field of Intellectual Property; strengthen coordination between departments, branches, and units; between State agencies and intellectual property rights holders on the skills of identifying trademarks and how to distinguish genuine and counterfeit goods. Thereby, improving the work of market inspection and control and handling of cases related to counterfeit goods, infringement of intellectual property rights, etc.
In the current context, the situation of intellectual property rights infringement tends to increase with many new methods and tricks such as applying high technology, using modern equipment to produce goods, making it difficult for consumers and authorities to detect genuine and fake goods.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Don - Deputy Head of Nghe An Market Management Department said: Violations of intellectual property rights on e-commerce platforms not only cause serious damage to rights holders but also negatively affect the healthy and sustainable development of the market.

In 2025, closely following the directions of the Prime Minister and the Provincial People's Committee on strengthening the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the new situation, the Market Management Department focused resources on the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights, thereby detecting and handling many cases of infringement of intellectual property rights. As a result, in the first 8 months of 2025, through inspections, 45 cases of infringement of intellectual property rights were handled, with an administrative fine of 385 million VND. The value of the infringing goods was 20 million VND./.
