Assigning officers to monitor...sidewalks
(Baonghean.vn) - In Hong Son Ward, there are over 800 households operating businesses on the sidewalks of 15 streets. In addition, there are approximately 200 street vendors and pushcarts regularly setting up markets in the middle of the road and on the sidewalks of streets such as Cao Thang, Hong Son, Nguyen Canh Chan, etc., causing traffic safety hazards and disrupting urban order. Currently, Hong Son Ward is launching a campaign to clear the sidewalks and maintain order.
In response to this situation, in recent days, Hong Son ward has focused on handling and confiscating goods from businesses encroaching on sidewalks and roads, while also encouraging them to move their businesses inside the market. Many street vendors and items encroaching on sidewalks have been seized.

"As a commercial ward, Hong Son faces the biggest challenge in maintaining urban order. Therefore, the Party Committee and the government consider this a crucial task that requires the mobilization of the entire political system," said Mr. Nguyen Tien Dat, Chairman of the Hong Son Ward People's Committee.
Previously, sidewalk and traffic safety corridor clearance campaigns were conducted 2-3 times a year. This time, Hong Son ward also proactively implemented the campaign starting from March 15th.
This time, the ward mobilized the entire political system, with the ward chairman and vice-chairman personally leading the functional forces to the streets to handle violations. Neighborhood groups formed, including the ward secretary, neighborhood leader, and members of organizations such as youth, women's, and veterans' associations, to go directly to households to educate, persuade, and organize businesses to avoid encroaching on sidewalks. However, the difficulty for many businesses is the small size of their kiosks. The ward also proceeded to dismantle partitions blocking the sidewalks and makeshift awnings to ensure clear and unobstructed sidewalks.
During the implementation process, the ward also compiled a list of households encroaching on sidewalks, assigned people to be in charge of each street, and scheduled monthly monitoring and supervision by the Fatherland Front organizations in coordination with the functional forces. After two weeks of launching the sidewalk clearing campaign, there has been a positive change, with businesses complying quite seriously. The situation of vendors displaying goods and encroaching on sidewalks has been significantly reduced on streets such as Le Huan and Thai Phien.

According to Nguyen Van Linh, an urban planning official in Hong Son ward: "For businesses with kiosks in the ward, they have signed commitments, so they comply quite seriously. The most difficult are the street vendors and pushcarts. They mainly come from other places to do business in the ward, so it's hard to deal with them."
According to the campaign, Hong Son ward will intensify its efforts until sidewalks and roads are properly restored, ensuring civility on the streets and avoiding the situation of "catching and releasing" offenders.
