Protesting against China's organization of a sailing race in the Paracel Islands.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official response to reports that China is holding the 5th Ty Nam Cup sailing race in the Paracel Islands.
Today, in response to a reporter's question asking for Vietnam's reaction to information that China is organizing the 5th Ty Nam Cup sailing race in the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands and establishing an office of the Hainan Immigration Inspection and Quarantine Bureau on Phu Lam Island, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed:
"Vietnam has full legal grounds and historical evidence to assert its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos."
These actions by China have violated Vietnam's sovereignty and complicated the situation in the South China Sea. Vietnam resolutely opposes them and demands that China not repeat similar actions.”
