Hanoi Police Club confirmed that according to the results of the scan on the morning of April 4, Phan Van Duc was determined to have completely torn his anterior cruciate ligament and crushed the posterior horn of his meniscus in Team I.
With this injury, Phan Van Duc will have to stay away from the field for about 9 months. In the coming time, the Hanoi Police Club's Board of Directors will arrange for Phan Van Duc to have surgery as soon as possible.
Phan Van Duc was injured in the opening match of the 2023 National Cup between Khanh Hoa and Hanoi Police Club on April 2. In the 35th minute, Van Duc jumped up to block the ball in the middle of the field, did not collide with anyone but landed in the wrong position and fell to the ground. He was immediately treated by the club's medical team but could not continue playing.
In this match, coach Paulo Foiani put him in central midfield instead of his usual winger position. Hanoi Police beat Khanh Hoa 3-1 thanks to goals from Doan Van Hau, Pham Gia Hung and Le Van Do to advance to the round of 16 of the National Cup.
Van Duc ended his contract with Song Lam Nghe An early to join Hanoi Police from the beginning of the 2023 season. Before this injury, Van Duc had suffered two right knee injuries, one of which was a serious relapse requiring surgery in 2019, and he missed most of this season.
Van Duc has always been an important player in the U23 and Vietnam national teams under coach Park for the past 5 years. This injury will keep Duc out for the rest of the season and will also cause him to miss the Vietnam national team's training sessions this year. This season, Van Duc has only played 5 matches, including 4 in the V.League.
