Hanoi Police Football Club confirmed, based on the scan results from the morning of April 4th, that Phan Van Duc was diagnosed with a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a contusion of the posterior horn of the meniscus in the first team.
With this injury, Phan Van Duc will be sidelined for approximately 9 months. The Hanoi Police Football Club management will arrange for a surgeon to operate on him as soon as possible.
Phan Văn Đức suffered an injury during the opening match of the 2023 National Cup between Khánh Hòa and Hanoi Police Club on April 2nd. In the 35th minute, Văn Đức jumped to control the ball in the middle of the field, without colliding with anyone, but landed awkwardly and fell to the ground. He was immediately attended to by the club's medical team but was unable to continue playing.
In this match, coach Paulo Foiani deployed him as a central midfielder instead of his preferred winger position. Hanoi Police defeated Khanh Hoa 3-1 thanks to goals from Doan Van Hau, Pham Gia Hung, and Le Van Do to advance to the round of 16 of the National Cup.
Van Duc terminated his contract with Song Lam Nghe An early to join Hanoi Police FC at the start of the 2023 season. Before this injury, Van Duc had suffered two previous right knee injuries, including one severe recurrence requiring surgery in 2019, which kept him out for most of this season.
Van Duc has always been a key player for the U23 and senior Vietnam national teams under coach Park Hang-seo for the past five years. This injury will sideline him for the rest of the season and cause him to miss the national team's training camps this year. This season, Van Duc has only played 5 matches, including 4 in the V.League.
