North Korea upgrades its KN-25 artillery system to a strategic weapon, while India releases images of its S-400 in operation and the US adds engines to its destroyer fleet.

North Korea is accelerating the restructuring of its artillery forces, focusing on long-range rocket artillery systems to directly pressure the US and allied Patriot PAC-3 and THAAD missile defense systems. This shift marks a turning point in Pyongyang's military doctrine, transforming rocket artillery from a support role into a primary strategic offensive weapon.

The centerpiece of this upgrade is the KN-25 (also known as KN-625) 600mm super-heavy multiple rocket launcher system. With an estimated range of 380km, the KN-25 is capable of covering the entire Korean Peninsula, targeting enemy air bases, command centers, and especially missile defense positions.

The KN-25 challenges Patriot and THAAD due to its semi-ballistic flight trajectory and extremely high velocity in the terminal phase. Large-scale deployments (saturation attack) can overwhelm missile defense systems. In addition to the tracked version, the highly mobile wheeled variant of the KN-25 allows launch units to quickly change positions, evade reconnaissance, and counterattacks.

In other developments in the defense industry, GE Aerospace has just signed a contract to supply eight LM2500 gas turbine engines for two Flight III Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, the USS Intrepid and USS Robert Kerrey. Each ship will be equipped with four engines, ensuring the ability to maintain high speeds and operate for extended periods at sea.

By early 2025, the U.S. Navy will be operating 74 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, all powered by the LM2500 engine. With over 30 years of service, this engine is highly regarded for its high power density and reliability, becoming the standard for the backbone of the U.S. surface fleet.

India releases operational images of S-400 Sudarshan.

The Indian Air Force first confirmed the actual deployment of the S-400 Sudarshan long-range air defense system through Operation Sindoor in May of this year. New Delhi deployed this system in strategic areas to counter threats from Pakistani airspace.

During combat operations, India's S-400 system was recorded as successfully intercepting six targets, including electronic warfare aircraft, at a record range of 315km. The Sudarshan system possesses a multi-band reconnaissance radar capable of detecting targets from distances exceeding 500km and simultaneously destroying various types of aircraft, from UAVs to cruise missiles. Currently, the S-400 is fully integrated into India's top-tier air defense command and control network.
