Vietnam's ZU-23-2 self-propelled artillery boasts superior flexibility.

Many armies around the world have pursued the option of self-propelling the ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun by mounting it on the back of an off-road truck.

The Soviet/Russian-made ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun is a weapon found in the arsenals of many armies. Originally, the ZU-23-2 was a towed gun, requiring ground mounting before it could fire.

However, to improve the mobility of this artillery piece, the most common method is to mount the gun mount and carriage on the cargo bed of an off-road wheeled truck.

This design gives the ZU-23-2 superior maneuverability, and when needed, it can lower its gun to provide effective air support for infantry, no different from dedicated direct firepower.

The ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun mounted on a truck is in the position of lowering its barrel for direct fire.

Recognizing the advantages of this method, Vietnam also implemented a project to mount the ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun onto a KamAZ 43118 truck. Vietnam's self-propelled anti-aircraft weapon system was supplemented with four hydraulic outriggers, providing significantly greater stability when firing directly from the tires because it eliminates vertical oscillations.

In addition, the cannon is equipped with a new generation optical aiming system, allowing the gun crew to acquire firing elements faster and making it almost immune to active and passive interference, enabling the cannon to operate effectively and respond flexibly to all electronic warfare tactics.

The Vietnamese ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun uses a KamAZ 43118 3-axle all-terrain truck chassis.

However, that's not all; Vietnam has also created a unique product in the world: mounting the ZU-23-2 gun onto the M548 tracked transport vehicle chassis.

In addition to the advantages listed above, this option is even better because tracked vehicles have significantly better off-road capability than wheeled vehicles, allowing for faster troop deployment. More importantly, perhaps only our ZU-23-2 self-propelled anti-aircraft gun can swim through flooded areas, something that wheeled trucks cannot do.

The ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun was mounted by Vietnam onto a US-made M548 tracked truck chassis.

Furthermore, because the weapon is mounted on a tracked chassis, it has high stability, allowing for very rapid deployment; firing can be done simply by stopping to pick up the firing element. This saves time compared to having to deploy the support legs, but avoids the drawback of vibration and shaking that occurs when firing directly from a wheeled truck.

Inheriting many achievements and experiences from its predecessors, it's easy to understand why Vietnam's ZU-23-2 self-propelled anti-aircraft gun model has so many outstanding advantages.
