France: Post-terrorism election, far-right FN party wins overwhelmingly
(Baonghean.vn) – On December 6, France held the first round of regional elections. According to preliminary results, the far-right National Front (FN) won the overall victory. This is also the first victory of a far-right party in France.
According to preliminary estimates on the evening of December 6, Marine Le Pen's FN Party won with 30.6% of the vote, far ahead of the Republican Party (27%) and the Socialist Party (22.7%). With this victory, the FN Party took over 6 out of 13 major urban areas in France for the first time.

Marine Le Pen welcomed the good news of her election victory with a speech:
“The people have spoken, for them France must show its leadership. The results of the vote once again confirm what previous polls have said: there is no doubt that the national movement is the leading party in France.”
This coming Sunday, December 13, France will continue to hold the second round of regional elections. Analysts predict that Ms. Le Pen's far-right party will still win the overall victory.
The results of France’s regional elections did not surprise analysts. Since 2010, the far-right FN party with its strong anti-terrorism policy has begun to gain more active public support, especially after two terrorist attacks targeting the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in January 2015 and a series of attacks targeting the capital Paris on November 13.
