Türkiye's purchase of the Russian S-400 air defense missile system is a sovereign choice, but it is important to remember the integrity of NATO – the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement amid strong criticism from the US regarding the deal.

"Türkiye's purchase of military equipment is clearly a sovereign decision. But the integrity of the NATO alliance is equally important. And this is facilitated by the mutual compatibility of the allies' military capabilities," the French foreign ministry commented.
It was added that "future differences between the allies undermine this unity."
"As the European Commissioner reminded us yesterday during her visit to Ankara, France stands alongside its ally Turkey in countering regional threats that could affect the country's security," the French Foreign Ministry emphasized.
