Launching campaign to improve image of Vietnamese tourists

This is a practical activity at the Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM 2016) to contribute to building the image of civilized and polite Vietnamese people when traveling abroad.

Mr. Vu The Binh, Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association, said that in recent times, some Vietnamese tourists have behaved uncivilizedly when traveling abroad. In the era of information explosion, such behaviors can easily spread quickly. The negative impacts of these phenomena not only negatively affect tourism activities but also affect the national image and the integration process of Vietnam in general...

Immediately after the launching ceremony, students participated in picking up trash and cleaning the environment on some streets in Hanoi to spread and raise awareness and civilized behavior of Vietnamese people when traveling, especially traveling abroad.

According to statistics, in 2015, about 45 million Vietnamese people traveled domestically and more than 6 million people traveled abroad. Notably, due to lack of advice and guidance, many Vietnamese tourists "innocently" brought their "bad" habits abroad, partly leaving behind the image of "ugly Vietnamese" in foreign lands.

Common bad habits of Vietnamese tourists when traveling abroad include: Disrupting public order; littering; wasting food; being late; inappropriate clothing; crowding due to lack of queueing habits; taking photos in unauthorized places. In particular, some Vietnamese tourists also have the habit of petty theft, especially in stores and supermarkets. In particular, there have been cases of Vietnamese people taking advantage of traveling to stay in the host country to work illegally.

In order to raise awareness of Vietnamese people when traveling abroad, the General Department of Tourism has coordinated with the Vietnam Tourism Association to draft a "Campaign to launch a movement of civilized behavior when traveling." Accordingly, this document will guide basic rules of conduct to guide behavior, attitudes, and ways of behaving in a civilized and polite manner for Vietnamese people when participating in tourism activities abroad as well as destinations in Vietnam. The General Department of Tourism will also conduct propaganda, raise awareness, build and form habits, civilized behavior, politeness, and law-abiding behavior of Vietnamese people when traveling, contributing to improving the image of Vietnamese tourists and improving the quality of tourism services.

In the coming time, the General Department of Tourism and the Vietnam Tourism Association will soon complete the draft to submit to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for promulgation and widespread dissemination./.
