Launching the competition 'Learn about the history of the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos'

((Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 12th, the Central Propaganda Department, in coordination with the Provincial Party Committees, City Party Committees, and Party Committees directly under the Central Committee, organized the July 2017 online briefing conference at 53 locations nationwide.

At the conference, speakers heard from Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc, who provided information on the global situation from the beginning of the year to the present. In the first six months of the year, Vietnam maintained a peaceful and stable environment, capitalized on development resources, and gradually enhanced its position on the international stage. This was clearly demonstrated during Vietnam's high-level visits to China and the United States.

In particular, the fact that the US President invited Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the third Asian leader (after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chinese President Xi Jinping) and the first ASEAN leader to visit the US, demonstrates that the Donald Trump administration highly values ​​Vietnam's role and position in the Asia-Pacific region in general, and ASEAN in particular.

Leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also provided forecasts on the global situation and relations between Vietnam and other countries in the coming period.

Also at the conference, the speakers heard from the leaders of the National Assembly Office about the important results of the Third Session of the 14th National Assembly.

The third session of the 14th National Assembly concluded successfully. During this session, the National Assembly completed its agenda with many important legislative tasks, decisions on crucial national issues, and supreme oversight. The National Assembly devoted most of its time to reviewing and passing 12 laws and 12 resolutions, and providing opinions on 6 other draft laws. The laws and resolutions passed by the National Assembly contain many innovative and progressive provisions, consistent with international practices, further improving the market economy institutions and the legal system regarding justice, national defense, and security, contributing to protecting the country's sovereignty and security, safeguarding the regime, and ensuring social order and safety.

Regarding the draft Law on Planning, due to differing opinions, after careful consideration of all aspects, the National Assembly decided not to pass it at this session in order to further refine it and ensure its quality and feasibility.

One of the outstanding results of the 3rd session was the renewed and vibrant democratic atmosphere, shifting from "National Assembly speeches" to "National Assembly debates." National Assembly deputies demonstrated dedication, responsibility, and frankness in their speeches, and were particularly active in debating with members of the Government and other deputies to further clarify shortcomings and weaknesses, determine responsibilities, and thoroughly address issues.

Regarding the orientation of propaganda work in August 2017, the Central Propaganda Department requested that speakers focus on publicizing the results of the socio-economic development tasks in the first six months of the year. Attention should be paid to targeted propaganda on activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs, addressing policies for those who have rendered meritorious services; and the Traditional Day of the Propaganda Department. At the same time, the implementation and study of Resolution No. 5 of the 12th Central Committee should continue.

Also at the conference, the Propaganda Department of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee launched the "Understanding the History of the Special Relationship between Vietnam and Laos" contest to practically respond to the "Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year 2017" along with the events: 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos (September 5, 1962 - September 5, 2017); 40 years since the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos (July 18, 1977 - July 18, 2017). The contest aims to contribute to the dissemination and education of revolutionary traditions, especially for the younger generation, about the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos, and Laos and Vietnam in the process of fighting against common enemies, liberating the nation and building a developed country.
