Launching a campaign to collect DNA samples from relatives of fallen soldiers.

On the morning of June 24th, the Ministry of Public Security held a ceremony to launch a nationwide campaign to collect DNA samples from relatives of fallen soldiers whose information has not yet been identified.

Attending and presiding over the ceremony was Comrade Pham Thi Thanh Tra - Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government.

At the Nghe An location, the ceremony was attended by Comrade Phung Thanh Vinh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and representatives from relevant departments and agencies.

This intensive campaign is being implemented within the framework of the 500-day and night campaign to search for, collect, and identify the remains of fallen soldiers, aiming to accelerate the progress of building a DNA database to serve the verification, matching, and identification of fallen soldiers whose information is still incomplete.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, in the first six months of 2026, authorities collected and analyzed more than 3,000 DNA samples, thereby identifying the identities of 30 martyrs. Currently, there are still more than 175,000 martyrs whose remains have not been found nationwide, and over 300,000 martyrs' graves whose information has not been fully identified.

Collecting DNA samples from relatives of fallen soldiers is considered an important solution to apply science and technology to the work of showing gratitude to fallen soldiers, contributing to identifying the identities of fallen soldiers whose information is still incomplete, and fulfilling the aspirations of their relatives and families nationwide.

Immediately following the launching ceremony by the Ministry of Public Security, the Nghe An Provincial Police organized a ceremony to launch the intensive campaign to collect DNA samples from relatives of fallen soldiers throughout the province.

According to the plan, the peak period in Nghe An will be implemented from June 25th to July 1st, 2026, in 130 communes and wards across the province. The province has set up 7 DNA sample collection points in Truong Vinh ward, Tan Mai ward, and the communes of Dai Dong, Do Luong, Dien Chau, Tuong Duong, and Tam Hop. During this period, Nghe An aims to collect 22,221 DNA samples from relatives of fallen soldiers.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Comrade Phung Thanh Vinh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - emphasized that this is an important preparatory step for the search and identification of fallen soldiers. He also called on all levels, sectors, armed forces units, and localities to closely coordinate with the police force to effectively implement this task with profound humanitarian significance.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested that localities strengthen propaganda efforts and support the relatives of martyrs in participating in sample collection; and that the police force ensure that sample collection is carried out scientifically, accurately, and safely.

Within the 7-day implementation period, Nghe An province strives to complete the collection of DNA samples from relatives of more than 22,000 fallen soldiers, contributing to fulfilling the aspirations of the families of fallen soldiers and effectively serving the work of identifying the remains of fallen soldiers in the future.
