Huge bomb discovered at the foot of hydroelectric dam

(Baonghean.vn) – While casting his net in Ang stream, Mr. La Quang Huy, residing in Ang village, Xa Luong commune, Tuong Duong district, discovered that his net was caught in the detonator of a large bomb.

At around 10am on May 29, Mr. Huy was casting his net in Ang stream, the section adjacent to the Ang hydroelectric dam, when he discovered a strange iron object stuck in his net. “At first, I intended to take the strange object home, but after touching it more closely and thinking it was a bomb detonator, I went back to the commune to report it to them for handling,” said Mr. La Quang Huy.

Colonel Vang Thanh Hai - Commander of the Military Command of Tuong Duong district said that on the afternoon of May 29, immediately after receiving the information, the unit sent officers to verify, make a record of the scene and cordon off the area where the bomb was discovered.

Mr. Hai added that the bomb still has a detonator, weighs about 50 - 60kg, and is located at coordinates 29^o365'. Most of the bomb is lying in the stream, the head and fuse are about 40cm above the ground.

"We are currently establishing a bomb disposal steering committee, surveying the bomb disposal site and will proceed to dispose of this bomb in the shortest time possible," Mr. Hai added.

The area around the scene has been marked with signs and fences to warn the public. The bomb is located about 100m from the foot of the Ang Dam.

It is known that during the construction of the Ang hydropower plant, this unit also conducted mine clearance, but for some reason the above bomb was still not discovered.
