Authorities discovered an iron ferry illegally extracting sand; authorities are investigating the amount of sand at the storage site.
(Baonghean.vn) - Authorities discovered a steel-hulled ferry with four people on board engaging in illegal sand mining.
At approximately 10 PM on November 2nd, 2021, in the Lam River area within Block 11, Ben Thuy Ward, Vinh City, the Environmental Police Department, in coordination with the Waterway Police Team - Traffic Police Department, discovered a steel-hulled ferry with four people on board engaging in illegal sand mining.
The four suspects include Nguyen Van Viet (born in 1989), Tran Van Duc (born in 1996), both residing in Hung Loi commune, Hung Nguyen district; Dau Cong Minh (born in 1990), residing in Hung Hoa commune, Vinh City; and Nguyen Van Tan (born in 1991), residing in Chau Thanh commune, Quy Hop district.

Authorities ordered the individuals to cease their illegal mining activities and documented the incident. Inspection revealed that 112 cubic meters of sand had been illegally extracted and stored in the ferry's hold.3.
The iron-hulled ferry used by the perpetrators for sand mining is 47m long and 5.2m wide, equipped with two high-capacity sand suction pipes. Notably, the area where the perpetrators are illegally mining sand is only about 800m from the foot of Ben Thuy 1 Bridge.
During the investigation, the police clarified that the sand on the ferry, after being extracted, was transported by the suspects to a storage yard at the dock belonging to Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company 668, located in Block 13, Ben Thuy Ward, Vinh City, headed by Mr. Vo Thanh Hung.

The company's storage yard has an area of over 1,600 square meters.3Regarding the sand, at the time of inspection, the company's leadership had not presented any documents proving the legal origin of the sand.
The Environmental Police Department has temporarily seized the vehicle and is continuing to verify and handle the case according to the law.
