Two thieves were sentenced to prison for causing the death of the Deputy Captain of the Criminal Police.
Dong Thap Provincial People's Court has sentenced two thieves to prison for murder and resisting law enforcement officers, resulting in the death of a deputy captain of the criminal police.
On March 22, Dong Thap Provincial People's Court tried defendant Ngo Hoang Tho (42 years old) for "Murder and Theft of property"; defendant Pham Hong Qui (34 years old) for "Theft of property, Resisting a person on official duty".
The incident caused Mr. Ho Tan Duong (then Captain, Deputy Team Leader, Economic Crime and Drug Crime Investigation Police Team, Lap Vo District Police) to die.

The indictment alleges that at around 10:20 a.m. on August 4, 2022, people reported that Tho and Qui had stolen property from a truck along National Highway 2B, in Binh Thanh commune, Lap Vo district.
Upon receiving the news, the Lap Vo District Police working group of 4 people, including Mr. Ho Tan Duong and Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Thanh Danh, quickly organized to arrest the suspect.
The police asked Tho and Qui to stop their vehicle for inspection, but the two subjects did not comply and drove straight into the officers and destroyed the evidence.
During the pursuit, the Task Force fired warning shots into the air several times and signaled for the vehicle to stop, but Tho continued to drive the vehicle carrying Qui at high speed, weaving and fighting back fiercely, causing Ho Tan Duong to die on the way to the emergency room.
The People's Court sentenced defendant Ngo Hoang Tho to 19 years in prison and ordered him to pay 180 million VND in compensation to the victim's family; defendant Pham Hong Qui received 2 years and 6 months in prison.
