Surgery removes 59 shards of glass from a patient's stomach.

According to information from Bach Mai Hospital, doctors recently removed 59 pieces of ceramic from a patient's stomach.

The patient is Nguyen Van V., 53 years old, from Bao Thang, Lao Cai.

According to the patient's family, at noon on November 15th, Mr. Nguyen Van V. showed signs of agitation, smashing about 3-4 cups and then picking up the broken pieces and swallowing them.

On the evening of November 15th, the family took the patient to Bach Mai Hospital for examination.

Patient V. was examined by doctors and prescribed endoscopy of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.

The results showed that the patient's stomach contained little food, the antral mucosa was congested with some superficial and protruding erosions. The fundus and body of the stomach contained many white, porcelain-like foreign bodies (resembling pieces of a cup) of varying sizes.

Based on these results, the doctors in the Functional Examination Department determined that they could not proceed with removing the foreign body via gastroscopy. This is a difficult procedure, and the prognosis was that the entire foreign body could not be removed, so they decided to transfer the patient to the Surgery Department for treatment.

Following surgery to remove the foreign object from the digestive tract, the patient was closely monitored in the Surgical Department for 8 days. Currently, the patient is stable and has been discharged.
