According to RIA Novosti on December 11, Anas al-Abda, a member of the political body of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces (NCORS), told RIA Novosti that Syria has no intention of engaging in hostilities with neighboring countries, therefore, Israel's attacks on the country are unfounded.

NKORS is a coalition of groups opposed to former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and is closely linked to the Free Syrian Army. NKORS representatives have repeatedly participated in negotiations with Syrian authorities within the framework of the Astana process.

“Israel’s latest actions against Syria deserve condemnation,” al-Abda said, stressing that Israel’s attacks were baseless.

On December 9, Israeli aircraft carried out major attacks on military targets across Syria, hitting the port of Latakia, military bases in Damascus and Homs provinces, research centers and factories of the Ministry of Defense. In addition, according to the Syrian newspaper Al-Watan, on the same night, the Israeli army occupied the Syrian province of Quneitra on the Syrian Golan Heights, reinforcing positions 50 kilometers from Damascus.

“There is a clear message from all sides of the Syrian people that the main goal is to focus on Syria. They have no intention of engaging in hostilities with neighboring countries or actually participating in the war,” the politician noted.

Syrian newspaper Al-Watan reported that armed opposition forces have taken control of the city of Deir ez-Zor – the largest city in northeastern Syria and an important transport hub.
