Approval has been granted for the establishment of the Nghe An Department of Tourism, with an expected staff of 35.
(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, at the regular July meeting, the Provincial People's Committee agreed and unanimously approved the plan to establish a Department of Tourism based on the separation from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Previously, in 2007, Nghe An established the Department of Tourism according to Decision No. 673/QD-UB dated July 5, 1994, of the Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province. The organizational structure included: a Director and 2 Deputy Directors; 3 specialized departments; and an allocated staff of 16 people.
Since 2008, in accordance with Government Decree 13/2008/ND-CP dated February 4, 2008, Nghe An province has merged the Department of Tourism with the Department of Culture and Information and the Department of Physical Education and Sports into the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

However, in recent times, the province's tourism development has not been commensurate with its potential and strengths; the work of advising on state management of tourism has not met the requirements, and the apparatus and human resources are still lacking in both quantity and quality.
Mr. Ho Mau Thanh, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated that the Tourism sector under the department currently only has one Deputy Director in charge, one Tourism Operations Department with a staff of 6-7 people, and a Tourism Promotion Center. Advisory work lacks in-depth expertise, the quality of advice on planning, policies, and mechanisms is limited; and it does not fully cover the scope of state management in the field, especially regarding the management of accommodation quality (only about 50% of accommodation establishments are managed);…
To overcome the aforementioned shortcomings and limitations, and to create favorable conditions for the development of tourism in Nghe An, truly making it a key economic sector that contributes significantly to the socio-economic development of the province in the future, the establishment of the Nghe An Department of Tourism, based on the separation from the Nghe An Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is necessary and feasible.
According to the plan, upon its establishment, the number of staff for the Department of Tourism will be taken from the total number of staff allocated to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism by the Provincial People's Committee in 2016. From 2017 onwards, the province will gradually add staff each year; by 2025, the number of civil servants in the Department of Tourism will be fully implemented according to the approved plan, which is 35.

Currently, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with the Department of Home Affairs and other relevant agencies and units, is advising the Provincial People's Committee to submit the Project to the Provincial People's Council for approval.
It is expected that the Nghe An Department of Tourism will officially begin operations in early 2017 after receiving the necessary personnel, equipment, and funding.
