Phi Nhung tearfully recounts the story of being a single mother at the age of 20

The overseas singer appeared with her biological daughter Wendy and shared about her stormy life.

In April, Phi Nhung first publicly revealed her biological daughter Wendy Pham after many years of keeping it a secret, surprising the public. Before that, the singer had never once mentioned having a daughter. Wendy looks like her mother, is over 20 years old, and is studying nursing in the US.

Phi Nhung said she came to the US in 1989 without any support from her relatives and struggled to make a living as a seamstress. In 1992, Phi Nhung became pregnant with her daughter Wendy. When my belly was big, I continued to work as a seamstress until close to my due date. I also drove myself to the hospital to give birth and had no one to help. When my baby was one month old, I went back to work, put the baby's crib next to the sewing machine, and covered it with a piece of cloth to keep the baby from getting dusty. She cried a lot, and had to tie her legs up high at night to sleep because she was afraid of losing her baby. One time, she forgot her keys in the house and had to jump out the window to get into the house. Even though she knew the fetus was at risk of miscarrying, she still risked jumping out the window with the thought, 'if God loves her, he will keep the baby'. "After that time, the fetus gradually got stronger. Maybe God wanted Wendy to suffer from a young age," Phi Nhung said.

When her daughter was one year old, Phi Nhung met singer Trizzie Phuong Trinh by chance at a charity event. Trizzie recognized Phi Nhung's emotional voice and advised her to pursue a singing career. Because she wanted her daughter to have a full life, Phi Nhung decided to take her child and follow Trizzie to California. "The tailoring profession at that time had a fairly stable income.

I was afraid that if I didn't succeed in singing, where would I get the money to raise my child? And then if I went singing, I didn't know who to leave my child with to take care of her? But I thought, I have to try so that my daughter doesn't suffer and lack money like me. So, I took my child and left." For the next two years, Phi Nhung stayed at Trizzie Phuong Trinh's house and was helped by Trizzie's mother to take care of her daughter. During the day, she sold CDs for a music center, and in the evening she worked at a restaurant, while practicing singing.

"I'm not a singer at the center, so I have to work hard, learn music and do everything myself. There were times when I wanted to wear ao dai to perform, but because I didn't have money, I had to borrow Trizzie's mother's dress. I also didn't dare spend anything because I was saving to buy diapers and milk for my child. My life was very difficult," she said in tears.

Wendy often lives away from her mother because Phi Nhung is busy performing to earn money.

After two years of diligently learning the Northern accent and music, Phi Nhung finally appeared in a CD with the famous singer Huong Lan. She sang two songs, Noi buon hoa phuong and Noi lai tinh xua. Luckily, her voice was loved by the audience and from then on she performed more often. Because she did not have time to take care of her children, Phi Nhung sent them back to Florida and asked her younger sister to help look after them.

She said that although she was heartbroken to be separated from Wendy, she wanted her daughter to have a peaceful childhood and receive a full education. "Because I am poor and uneducated, anyone can curse me, but I don't want anyone to touch my child. My child must study well so that he or she won't suffer like me in the future. Many people in the industry curse me, asking why I have to hide my child, but they don't understand. I have suffered a lot to get to where I am today."

One time, when she was about to go on stage to perform, a relative informed Phi Nhung that Wendy was sick. Because of her daughter, Phi Nhung forgot her own happiness. The female singer also confided that she did not want her daughter to see her mother dating one person after another because she was afraid that her daughter would imitate her.

Phi Nhung also corrected the rumor that Wendy is not the child of singer Manh Quynh. "Manh Quynh is my best friend in life. If Wendy was Manh Quynh's child, she would be more beautiful. Wendy's father is a gentle and talented person, but we are not destined to be together. He has another family so he cannot take care of Wendy."

When Wendy was 16, Phi Nhung also started adopting orphans.
