According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, over the past month, at least 25 UAVs and reconnaissance equipment carrying various types of explosives have been detected and destroyed when they deliberately violated the airspace of Russia's Hmeymim air base in Syria.

Accordingly, the shooting down of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) heading towards Russia's Hmeymim airbase on August 11 was the fourth UAV shot down in just three days by Russia in Syria.

Earlier, on August 10, the Russian military also shot down two “small-sized air targets” originating from the northern area controlled by Syrian rebels. On August 9, another air target was shot down while en route to the Hmeymim base.

Shooting down UAVs has become a routine practice for Russian forces stationed in Syria’s Latakia province. Over the past month, at least 25 UAVs, along with reconnaissance devices carrying various explosives, have deliberately violated the airspace of the Hmeymim base.

For a long time, the Russian military and the Syrian government have affirmed the existence of terrorists and armed opposition groups in Syria right in the areas controlled by the US. Meanwhile, the areas liberated by the Syrian army are gradually recovering and participating in the national reconciliation efforts across the country.
