Behind the 'halo' of hydropower

(Baonghean.vn) - It is undeniable that hydroelectric plants have brought economic benefits, but behind that "halo", people and local authorities are struggling to bear the huge consequences that hydroelectricity leaves behind.

For over 10 years, hundreds of households in 5 communes in Ky Son have been living in misery because they are part of the planning of 2 hydroelectric plants. Hydroelectric plants have not been built, while people or local authorities who want to invest in roads, build houses... are not allowed. In some villages, because they cannot stand this situation, households have had to leave their hometowns one by one.

"Do you have many copies?"

Kha Van Long (33 years old) cannot remember how many kilometers he had to run through the forest to carry each can of water during the recent drought. There has been no rain in this border area for nearly 2 months, the water in the streams and streams near Xop Duong village (My Ly commune, Ky Son) of Long is dry, not a drop can be collected. To have water for cooking, Long, like other households, had to spend many hours walking through the forest carrying each plastic can. For bathing and washing, people had to go down to the Nam Non stream with muddy water.

But not only is there a lack of water, for a long time now, Mr. Long's Xop Duong village and the neighboring Chang Nga village have been called by the not-so-proud name: "The village with many empty spots". There is no electricity here, no phone signal, no concrete roads, no medical stations... As for the schools here, they are just temporary, shabby houses.
