Behind a verdict...
(Baonghean.vn) - As a child, Hoang Dinh Nghia was considered a gentle boy by his neighbors. However, when he grew up, Nghia became friends with a group of village boys who were loafers and got involved in social evils. When Nghia had to pay the price with years in prison, a large debt "weighed heavily" on his mother's shoulders...
Murder from flirting
Hoang Dinh Nghia (born in 1993), residing in Long Thanh commune (Yen Thanh), was born into a family of 3 brothers. His father died early, and Nghia's mother worked hard to raise the 3 brothers. Since childhood, Nghia was considered by friends and neighbors to be a cheerful boy who got along well with everyone. However, when he was in high school, Nghia gradually socialized and became acquainted with the seniors of the neighboring village. At that time, the eldest brother was in poor health, the youngest brother was still young, Nghia was the hope of his mother, siblings and relatives. However, being incited by friends and having a playful nature, Nghia dropped out of school before finishing 10th grade, despite the dissuasion of his mother, teachers and classmates.

After hanging out with bad friends for a while, Nghia ran out of money. Without a job, Nghia had the idea of stealing. First, he exchanged chickens and bags of rice in the house for money to play. Then, Nghia gradually went to steal in other places. What was to come, came. In 2016, Nghia was arrested for stealing a motorbike in the area. Hoang Dinh Nghia was sentenced to 10 months in prison for "Theft of property". However, not long after being released from prison, and his criminal record had not yet been cleared, Nghia continued to commit crimes.
On the evening of July 29, 2018, Nghia drove a motorbike carrying Ms. Nguyen Thi H. (born in 1988), residing in Khanh Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, from National Highway 48E to Yen Thanh town. On the way, the two met Mr. Thai Huu B. (born in 1997) riding a motorbike carrying Ho Dinh Doan (born in 1997), also residing in Hamlet 3, Xuan Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, traveling in the same direction as them.
Seeing Ms. H., Thai Huu B. drove behind and overtook her. Doan sat behind and cursed and teased Ms. H., but Nghia and Ms. H. did not respond. At the Yen Thanh town intersection, B. stopped because of traffic jam. At this time, Nghia also came and stopped his car parallel to B. Ms. H. used a cable to hit Doan's back, causing Doan to run away. Nghia stopped and argued with B. After a while of arguing, Ms. H. and Nghia left.
Angry at being bullied, B. called 3 friends to block the road, go find Nghia and Ms. H. to talk. When the two sides met, B. and Nghia argued and got into a fight. Because he was so angry and could not control himself, B. punched Nghia, Nghia avoided it and ran away.
However, B. did not stop but continued to chase and beat him. At this time, Nghia pulled out a switchblade from his pocket and stabbed B. twice in the chest and back, causing the victim to collapse on the spot. Although he was taken to the hospital by local people for emergency treatment, due to the wound penetrating the heart and causing massive blood loss, B. died shortly thereafter.
Hearing the news of B.'s death, on the morning of July 30, 2018, Nghia went to the Nghe An Provincial Police Department to confess his actions.
Burden on the shoulders of relatives
On a day at the end of 2018, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Hoang Dinh Nghia for the crime of "Murder". Attending the trial, in addition to family members, there were many friends of the defendant and the victim. When the police officers led him to the witness stand, upon seeing his relatives, Nghia quickly turned around and sat down with his head bowed.
At the trial, after hearing the prosecutor announce the indictment, Hoang Dinh Nghia admitted all the crimes as charged in the indictment. Having the last word, Nghia shared: “The defendant is very remorseful for his rash and uncontrolled behavior. I hope the Trial Panel will consider and reduce the sentence so that the defendant can soon return to reunite with his family, rebuild his life, repay his parents’ debt and make up for Mr. B’s family.”

Considering the defendant’s behavior as particularly dangerous, of a hooligan nature, just because of a small conflict, depriving others of their right to live, causing insecurity and disorder; the defendant has a bad personal history. Considering the entire case, considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the Trial Panel sentenced Hoang Dinh Nghia to 17 years in prison for the crime of “Murder”. Regarding the civil part, the defendant is required to be responsible for compensating the victim’s family 262 million VND.
A large sum of money fell on the mother's thin shoulders. It is known that at the time of the incident, Mrs. T's family borrowed 70 million VND to partly compensate the victim's family. Her husband died early, she worked alone to support the whole family, and she spent all her capital to help her son make up for his mistake.
The case happened 5 years ago, now Mrs. Tran Thi T. (Nghia's mother) still has to work far away to earn money to pay off the remaining debt for her son. Twice, Mrs. T. received notice from the Court about her son's trial, the first time for the crime of "Theft", this time for the crime of "Murder". Ms. T. shared: "The child is foolish, the mother bears the burden, the sin he committed is partly my fault because I did not properly educate him, causing the incident to happen, their family (the victim) is even more painful than mine because they lost their child. I just hope I still have the health to go to work soon to pay off the compensation to compensate the victim's family and wait for him (Hoang Dinh Nghia) to return to rebuild his life"...
