Vietnam's extremely strange BRDM-2 armored version

During the departure ceremony of the forces participating in protecting the APEC 2017 conference, an extremely strange version of the BRDM-2 reconnaissance armored vehicle appeared.

BRDM-2 is a line of amphibious reconnaissance armored vehicles manufactured by the Soviet Union from 1962 to 1989 with 7,200 units produced to replace its predecessor BRDM-1 with many limited features. BRDM-2 also has another designation, BTR-40PB.

The BRDM-2's combat crew consists of four people: main driver, co-driver, vehicle commander and gunner. Because it was designed purely for battlefield reconnaissance missions, the BRDM-2 is not capable of carrying troops.

The BRDM-2 weighs 7.7 tons, is 5.75 m long, 2.37 m wide, and 2.31 m high. The vehicle's armor is 14 mm thick at the nose, 10 mm around and in front of the turret, 7 mm on the sides and rear as well as the turret roof, and 5 mm on the upper hull. Thus, the bulletproof level of this armored vehicle is quite limited.

The BRDM-2's weapon is similar to the BTR-60PB, it is equipped with a small gun turret, including a 14.5 mm KPVT heavy machine gun with 500 rounds of ammunition, accompanied by a secondary weapon of a 7.62 mm PKT coaxial machine gun with 2,000 rounds of ammunition.

The heart of the car is a 140 horsepower GAZ-41V-8 gasoline engine with a 4 x 4 hydraulic shock absorber leaf spring drive system for a maximum speed of 100 km/h on good roads or 10 km/h when swimming, with a range of up to 750 km.

Until now, BRDM-2 has only served in the Armored Corps, however recently, during the departure ceremony of the forces participating in protecting the APEC 2017 conference, a BRDM-2 variant equipped for the police appeared.

Due to the specific characteristics of the Police, this BRDM-2 has removed the 14.5 mm gun turret as on the original, it uses 4 small windows around instead of 2 large windows, in addition, the vehicle has also been converted with a roof hatch and railing on the body.

The function of this BRDM-2 can be predicted to be that it still takes on the role of command and reconnaissance like the Army.
