Although director Phan Gia Nhật Linh's film wasn't as outstanding as expected, it still achieved promising box office results in its opening days.
According to information from the distributor of "The Girl from Yesterday," after 4 days of sneak previews, the film attracted nearly 190,000 viewers to theaters. This is considered a fairly good start for director Phan Gia Nhật Linh's second film after "You Are My Grandma."
Released in July and competing with 21 other foreign films, "The Girl from Yesterday" proved to be no less impressive than other blockbusters. After four days of screening, the film received positive feedback from critics and audiences.

Most reviews suggest that the script effectively conveys the spirit of the original work, the setting is meticulously crafted, and the soundtrack is impressive. However, the film also suffers from many inherent flaws of Vietnamese films, such as inconsistent character development and numerous illogical details.
Adapted from the novel of the same name by writer Nguyen Nhat Anh, "The Girl from Yesterday" is considered the most anticipated high school film of 2017. The film tells the story of the naive love between high school student Thu (Ngo Kien Huy) and his classmate Viet An (Miu Le), along with his memories of his childhood friend Tieu Li (child actress Ha Mi).
Alongside the world of 90s school life with its innocent first crushes, the film also portrays a charming, naive picture of youth with stories that allow each of us to see ourselves in them.
Director Phan Gia Nhật Linh's film officially premiered nationwide on July 21st.
