(Baonghean.vn) - This was the directive of Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dinh Viet Hong at the conference summarizing the 2018-2019 school year and implementing tasks for the 2019-2020 school year.

During the past academic year, the entire province focused on effectively implementing the goals and targets of the Party Congress at all levels in the field of education and training. As a result, an additional 61 schools were recognized as meeting national standards; bringing the total number of schools meeting the standards to 1104, achieving a rate of 72.68% (exceeding the target). The universalization of education at all levels was ensured.

In parallel, the sector is also focusing on creating conditions to ensure sustainable educational development and implementing educational reforms in accordance with Resolution 29-NQ/TW.

In the National High School Graduation Examination, the graduation rate was 95.24%, with 35 students in the province achieving a perfect score of 10, and one student being the top scorer nationwide. In terms of overall average scores, Nghe An ranked 36th out of 63 provinces, an increase of 6 places compared to the previous academic year.

Regarding outstanding academic achievements, the province had 90 out of 102 students participating in the national excellent student competition winning awards, ranking second nationwide; 4 students participated in international and regional excellent student competitions and won 2 Silver medals and 2 Bronze medals.

At the concluding conference, 14 opinions were presented by localities and schools, focusing on issues such as infrastructure, improving the quality of the teaching staff, building key schools, teacher shortages and surpluses, and teaching two sessions per day.

Concluding the conference, Mr. Dinh Viet Hong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, commended and highly appreciated the efforts of the entire education sector during the 2018-2019 school year.

In addition, he frankly pointed out the shortcomings and limitations of the sector, such as the limited implementation of information technology applications to support management, teaching, and learning; the deteriorating physical infrastructure of schools; and the need for a more realistic and accurate assessment of student educational quality. Notably, there are still instances of teachers and students violating the law.

In the upcoming school year, to address the shortage of school buildings, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee suggested that localities should pay attention to infrastructure issues and include them in their annual financial plans.

In addition, attention should be paid to the issue of revenue and expenditure at the beginning of the school year, resolutely ending the situation of excessive fees, collecting fees on behalf of others, purchasing on behalf of others in schools, school violence and violations of teacher ethics; seriously and thoroughly review and re-examine schools that have achieved national standards after 5 years.

The sector also needs solutions to build and train a team of teachers and administrators to ensure the implementation of the new general education curriculum and textbooks; and to consider and advise on ensuring mechanisms for teachers, gradually implementing a two-session-per-day teaching schedule in primary education.

During this school year, it is necessary to effectively implement the pilot model for building high-quality key high schools; to effectively carry out communication on education, and to replicate and identify advanced models and best practices. Continue to innovate in assessment activities; organize examinations that are scientific, substantive, and for the progress of learners; and build a mechanism for autonomous student assessment that emphasizes accountability and the development of core values ​​for each school.

In the 2018-2019 academic year, the Nghe An Department of Education and Training was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Ministry of Education and Training for outstanding performance. 34 units were rated as having excellently completed their tasks, and 80 units as having performed well; 17 collectives and 109 individuals were recommended for Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training. Specifically, 4 collectives and 62 individuals from the directly affiliated units were recommended for Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
