Due to the impact of heavy rain from storm No. 5, Kim Lien commune lost 1,800/2,338 hectares of summer-autumn rice. This situation also occurred in some other localities after heavy rain with varying degrees. Currently, farmers are focusing on harvesting summer-autumn rice areas that were not flooded.

Not only causing damage to agricultural production, heavy rains also caused landslides on some canals in the area. Inspecting the landslide point on the low canal bank downstream of Bara Nam Dan sluice in Van An commune, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the locality and related sectors to specifically report on the landslide situation and advise on remedial measures.

Next, comrade Nguyen Van De inspected the progress of the summer-autumn rice harvest in Do Luong and Van Hien communes. Up to now, people have harvested 50-70% of the rice area. However, due to the impact of natural disasters and floods, rice yields in these localities are lower than in previous years. The communes are directing farmers to focus on going to the fields to quickly harvest the summer-autumn rice, especially in the face of weather forecasts that there will be rain in the coming days.

In Thuan Trung commune, the working group also inspected the high-quality pure rice production model DT18. This is the third year that this rice variety has been put into production in some localities in Nghe An, with an area of about 500 hectares in this summer-autumn crop, with an expected yield of about 5.2 tons/ha, good quality rice, easy to consume.

According to information from the provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, up to now, Nghe An has harvested about 25,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice, reaching over 30% of the area.

After inspecting the actual situation and listening to reports from localities and units, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De directed: Localities need to focus on human resources, manage well the use of machinery services in the area, take advantage of the sunny and favorable weather to quickly and neatly harvest the summer-autumn rice areas that are over 70% ripe, with the motto "Green house is better than ripe field" in conditions with many potential risks due to late-season floods.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to direct irrigation units to focus on measures to promptly drain water in the fields when there is heavy rain, to prevent prolonged flooding that affects the yield and quality of summer-autumn rice.

At the same time, people are advised to prepare well the source of materials for winter crop production according to the crop calendar set by the Department of Agriculture, with the motto of safe and effective production, avoiding adverse weather conditions, especially in the early stages of the crop. Prioritize production in the direction of linkage, creating stable output, increasing value per production unit. The Department of Agriculture also needs to do a good job of predicting and forecasting pests and diseases to have timely solutions to direct prevention and control for winter crops.
