Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov has just made a surprising statement on the Russia-24 television channel regarding the fate of the Su-57 fighter jet.

According to Yuri Borisov, the Russian Aerospace Forces will not be placing any further orders for the Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jet in the near future.

Previously, Russia had signed a contract to purchase 12 of these fighter jets and is expected to deliver them all to the Russian Air Force (VKS) before 2027.

The fifth-generation Su-57 fighter jet is equipped with modern technologies and high-precision weapon systems, making it one of the most powerful fighter jets in the world today.

However, the Russian Air Force currently does not need a large quantity of this type of weapon. One of the reasons for this decision is to reduce the financial burden on Russia's military programs, Borisov said.

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister said: "Currently, we possess Su-35 fighter jets, which are considered among the best aircraft in the world, so we are not obligated to mass-produce this fifth-generation fighter aircraft."

The Su-35 fighter jet, along with other aircraft, is fully capable of competing with current potential rivals."

He further analyzed that, in addition to financial considerations, mass production of the Su-57 would lead to a pilot shortage in Russia. The Su-57 fighter jet still has many undisclosed secrets, so training pilots to operate them will take time.

Furthermore, equipping many units within the armed forces with these types of aircraft will require additional infrastructure and personnel for aircraft maintenance and repair in those units.

To conduct flights, the Su-57s require very thorough technical inspections. This responsibility falls to the technical departments of the air bases. They need to prepare for flights, perform routine maintenance, and carry out other necessary tasks.

These forces cannot be prepared in a short period of time; they need detailed research and training. Therefore, from now until 2027, the Russian Aerospace Forces will only receive and master 12 of these new generation fighter jets.

And the Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet made any decision to mass-produce the Su-57 fighter jet, the Deputy Minister said. Regarding the production of this fighter jet for export, he affirmed that the capabilities of the Su-57 have been confirmed.

Whether exports happen sooner or later doesn't matter; if this fighter jet quickly becomes widespread globally, potential rivals will find ways to "sink" it. Even if Russia doesn't export this fighter jet, competitors will still try to undermine the Su-57's reputation.
