(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 16th, Comrade Vuong Dinh Hue - Member of the Political Bureau, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government, and the delegation visited and laid flowers and offered incense at the Truong Bon Historical Relic Site, My Son commune, Do Luong district.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue, along with a delegation from the Government and Nghe An province, visited the Truong Bon historical site in My Son commune, Do Luong district to lay flowers and offer incense, expressing gratitude and remembrance of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

During the fierce years of the war against the US to save the nation, the strategic Route 15A - the Truong Bon single-lane road - was a vital transportation artery connecting the large rear area of ​​the North, providing manpower and resources to the battlefields in the South.

Having discovered the strategic importance of Truong Bon, from 1964 to 1968, the US imperialists relentlessly attacked it with nearly 20,000 bombs of various types and tens of thousands of missiles, aiming to cut off our vital transportation route.

In the fierce battle against American bombs and bullets at the "fire zone" of Truong Bon, more than 1,500 cadres and soldiers of 9 Youth Volunteer Companies, belonging to the General Youth Volunteer Brigade for the Anti-American War and National Salvation in Nghe An province, along with our army and people's forces, held their ground day and night and fought tenaciously with courage; with unwavering will and determination, they achieved great victories and miracles in this place.

To achieve that victory, thousands of officers, soldiers, Youth Volunteers, transport workers, and militia members were wounded; 1,240 officers and soldiers fought bravely and heroically sacrificed their lives. Particularly noteworthy are the heroic achievements and sacrifices on October 31, 1968, of the 13 Youth Volunteers of the "Suicide Squad," the "Steel Squad," of the 317th Youth Volunteer Company.
