According to Ms. NTL's application: At 9:00 a.m. on December 19, 2020, she arrived atClinicLe Loi General Hospital, located at 99 Le Loi, Le Loi Ward, Vinh City (Nghe An)see the doctorHere she was consulted and underwent medical examination procedures, tests and necessary paraclinical tests.

After examination, Ms. L was diagnosed with vaginal yeast infection, cervical ectropion (III), and was prescribed vaginal medication. Afterwards, Ms. NTL was given vaginal medication by the staff here. The doctor prescribed a solution of 3 bottles; 2 bottles of Metronidazole, 2 bottles of Leybxan 100ml, and 1 bottle of fluconecl 100ml, 2 bottles of Tinidazole Injection 100ml: 400mg, along with 50 minutes of HQ therapy.

After that, the doctor scheduled Ms. NTL to return for a follow-up visit within 5 to 7 days. The total amount she had to pay for the examination and medication here was 8,020,000 VND (of which 6,200,000 VND was for vaginal medication, 970,000 VND was for intravenous medication, 850,000 VND was for general examination including ultrasound, cervical examination, etc.).

After paying, Ms. L went back to her brother's house to rest and told him about the medical examination fee. Her brother said that the medical examination fee was unreasonable, so she and her brother returned to Le Loi General Clinic to clarify the issue.

Ms. NTL and her brother went to work directly with the doctor to examine and clarify the types of medicine and costs. Here, she and her brother learned about the medicine they had used. The clinic doctor also said that the cost for the complete treatment of Ms. L's illness was up to more than 13 million VND.

After talking with the people involved, Ms. L and her brother left and went down to the basement to get their car. They were invited by the clinic staff to come up and work again with the examining doctor and another clinic staff member.

Here, Ms. NTL was asked if she had any wishes or suggestions. At the same time, the clinic staff kindly offered to refund Ms. NTL 50% of the cost she had paid, but Ms. NTL did not agree because she found it unreasonable.

While getting her car to go home, Ms. NTL was invited back to work with the doctor. During this meeting, the clinic representative agreed to return to Ms. NTL 6,200,000 VND, the amount that Ms. NTL had paid for vaginal medicine.

Because of urgent matters, Ms. NTL and Mr. Nghia had made an appointment to work with the clinic another day. When they got in the car to leave, an accountant from the clinic ran after them with money and gave it to Ms. NTL, but she refused to accept it. And then, Ms. NTL filed a complaint with the Nghe An Department of Health asking for clarification.

Discussing the types of drugs that Le Loi General Clinic used and the treatment method for Ms. NTL, Dr. Nguyen Thai Dung - Deputy Director of Nghe An Dermatology Hospital said: Metronidazole and Levofloxacin, Fluconazole in intravenous bottles are antibiotics: (Metronidazole costs from 21,000 - 30,000 VND/bottle; Levoflaxacin (USA) is the most expensive: 60,000 VND/bottle; Fluconazole is a rare bottle with a content of 200mg, not 100mg, priced at 470,000 VND/bottle.

“For vaginal yeast infection, you only need to use medicine for 3-5 days to cure it. The total cost of treatment is less than 100,000 VND. If you have diagnosed vaginal yeast infection and treat it with all kinds of antibiotics, it is unreasonable. In theory, using too many antibiotics will make the yeast infection worse,” added Dr. Nguyen Thai Dung.

It is known that Nghe An Department of Health has received Ms. NTL's complaint and assigned the Department of Health Inspectorate to coordinate with relevant agencies to clarify the incident...
