(Baonghean.vn) - After the Thai Olympic team was eliminated in the group stage, the Vietnamese Olympic team became the only representative from Southeast Asia to reach the quarterfinals of the Asian Games. What do Thai fans and the press think?

Speaking to a reporter from Nghe An Newspaper, Bee Uamklat, a reporter for FourFourTwo – a renowned international football magazine – said: “I don't think that Vietnam's Olympic team reaching the quarterfinals of the 2018 Asian Games was just luck. They proved their worth in the U23 Asian Championship. Perhaps luck only accounted for 25%, while the remaining 75% came from the team's own strength.”

Personally, I think this squad will impress at the AFF Cup at the end of the year, and at the ongoing 2018 Asian Games, even if the Vietnamese Olympic team is eliminated by Syria, their performance will still be quite good.

Leaving aside Southeast Asian football, for an Asian team, reaching the quarter-finals is already impressive, but reaching the semi-finals is truly remarkable.

Among the Vietnamese Olympic players, I am particularly impressed with Nguyen Quang Hai. He is only 21 years old and has already made his mark playing in the U20 World Cup. Another player is Doan Van Hau, only 19 years old, who plays as a left-back and left winger. This Vietnamese squad is very promising and still very young, aged between 21 and 23.

I think Vietnamese football currently has a golden generation, similar to the Thai national team's lineup right now.

For Quang Hai, he should choose to play in the J-League if he wants to go to Europe, just like Chanathip Songkrasin. These two players have similar playing styles and techniques, but if they want to improve, they have to do it step by step, because they are still very young.

With coach Park Hang Seo, he has blended the playing style and tactics of South Korea into Vietnamese football. What's special about this strategist is that he maximizes the abilities of each player and makes sensible substitutions. Therefore, I think he will use the Vietnamese Olympic team for the 2018 AFF Cup, just like Kiatisak used the Thai U23 team and some key players in the 2014 AFF Cup campaign.”

Regarding the Thai Olympic team, Bee Uamklat shared: “The current U23 Thai team is not as good as the national team. The U19 Thai team is also like that, only having a few quality players, but the U21 and U23 Vietnamese teams are different; they have played in the U20 World Cup.”
