On August 29, Melania Trump left the White House with President Trump to visit hurricane-ravaged Texas. Images of her walking across the lawn in high heels, capri pants, a military-green bomber jacket, and sunglasses drew widespread condemnation, AFP reported.
"Melania looks like a doll watching a flood," wrote a Twitter user named Maria Del Russo.
Television producer Brad Wollack said: "Help is coming, Texas! Don't worry, Melania has some special high heels."
Meanwhile, President Trump was dressed more appropriately, wearing a black hooded jacket, khaki pants, and brown boots.
Later, upon arriving in the hard-hit city of Corpus Christi, her first stop in Texas, Melania changed into a different outfit. She stepped off Air Force One wearing black pants, a white shirt, and sneakers, but on her head she wore a hat emblazoned with the word "Flotus," the initials of the First Lady of the United States, sparking further outrage on Twitter.

Comedian Jessica Kirson said the idea of wearing a hat was "great," sarcastically suggesting Melania could use high heels to pick up debris during a storm.
Later that day, the First Lady issued a statement praising the "strength and resilience" of the people of Texas. She expressed her desire to help and support in the most effective way possible, not just through words, "but also through action."
"My thoughts and my prayers will continue to be with the people of Texas and Louisiana," she said.
A large area of Texas is being devastated by Hurricane Harvey, considered the strongest hurricane to hit Texas in over 50 years. The storm has killed at least 11 people and caused severe flooding in the cities of Houston and Corpus Christi.
