Phu Quoc experiences high demand for hotel rooms during the New Year holiday: Foreign tourists surge.
With 99% of accommodations operating at full capacity, Phu Quoc is experiencing an unprecedented room demand surge. The dramatic increase in international visitors has made last-minute bookings virtually impossible.
Phu Quoc Island is entering the New Year holiday season with record-breaking demand. Unlike the quietness of previous seasons, this year resorts here are experiencing widespread room shortages, making it difficult for even high-paying tourists to find accommodation.
The reality of a shortage of record-breaking rooms.
According to a survey on the Booking app, up to 99% of hotels in Phu Quoc have announced they are fully booked for the period from January 1st to 4th. Only about 8 accommodations still have vacancies, with exorbitant prices ranging from 4.5 million VND for a homestay in Ganh Dau to 95 million VND for a luxury villa for three nights.
This situation has forced many domestic tourists to cancel their travel plans at the last minute. Mr. Hoang Vu (Hanoi) shared that finding accommodation in the northern part of the island was almost impossible, even though he had proactively contacted various channels from social media to travel agencies. Representatives of travel agencies such asBest PriceandVietnam TourismThey also confirmed that all rooms had been sold out months ago, and now they are only offering individual services such as sightseeing tickets or squid fishing tours.
The allure of the international market
The main reason for this boom is the surge in international tourists, who account for up to 90% of guests staying at major resorts.Wyndham Grand Phu QuocThe largest accommodation facility on the island, with nearly 1,400 rooms, recorded an average monthly occupancy rate exceeding 90% for the first time in its 7-year history, welcoming approximately 3,500 guests each night during this period.
Phu Quoc is becoming a preferred destination for tourists from Eastern Europe and Central Asia thanks to its 30-day visa-free policy and direct charter flights. Flights from Bucharest (Romania) and Chisinau (Moldova) are operating frequently. In addition, the Mongolian market and high-end weddings from abroad are also contributing to the increased demand.
Comparison with other destinations
While Phu Quoc is experiencing a "room shortage," other popular destinations like Nha Trang and Da Nang still offer many options for tourists. This is partly due to the fact that the supply of rooms in Phu Quoc (approximately 25,000 rooms) is much lower than in Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa (66,000 rooms) and Da Nang (65,000 rooms).
