Phu Quoc: Construction begins on a 12,000-room "hotel city" to serve APEC 2027.
Two large-scale projects at Bai Dat Do and Nui Ong Quan will provide 12,000 five-star standard rooms, meeting the accommodation infrastructure needs for the APEC 2027 diplomatic event.
On January 28th, the People's Committee of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, together with Sun Group, officially commenced construction of the Bai Dat Do Mixed-Use Urban Area and the Nui Ong Quan Eco-tourism Mixed-Use Urban Area. These are two key projects included in the list of projects serving the APEC Year 2027, marking Vietnam's strategic preparation for this international diplomatic event.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. Speaking at the ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasized that the rapid implementation of strategic infrastructure projects is not only an honor but also a crucial task to enhance the country's potential and position. Drawing on experience from APEC 2006 and 2017, accommodation infrastructure is identified as a key pillar for the success of the conference.
Red Soil Beach: A world-class accommodation hub.
The Bai Dat Do Mixed-Use Urban Area project spans 88.4 hectares with a total investment of approximately 64,000 billion VND. Its most prominent feature is the APEC Boulevard axis, boasting towers up to 40 stories high, integrating luxury hotels, a shopping center, and a seaside plaza. The project is expected to transform this area into a vibrant "hotel city," rivaling renowned global coastal cities.
Here, the presence of 13 luxury hotel brands from 5 world-renowned corporations such as Accor, Hilton, Marriott, and Lotte will set a new standard for resort experiences. Notably, some brands are making their debut in Vietnam, such asSO,ConradgoodW HotelsHotels like Marriott and Westin are also chosen to cater exclusively to diplomatic delegations and high-level MICE conferences.
Ong Quan Mountain: A multi-functional ecological urban area.
Alongside the Red Soil Beach project, the Ong Quan Mountain project, with an investment of 5,550 billion VND, is envisioned as a sustainable ecological urban area. Located on a hillside adjacent to Hoang Hon Town, the project will provide approximately 5,200 serviced apartments with environmentally friendly transportation planning. The combination of these two projects will create a total of 12,000 rooms, effectively addressing the shortage of accommodation for the approximately 20,000 delegates expected to attend APEC.
The proactive deployment of large-scale infrastructure in Phu Quoc is considered a fundamental step, drawing lessons from the practical experiences of other international conferences. After serving APEC 2027, these projects will become important drivers for transforming Phu Quoc into a modern, dynamic coastal city deeply integrated with the region.
