According to RIA Novosti on November 17, Gyorgy Varga, Doctor of International Relations Theory, former head of the OSCE observer mission in Russia (2017-2021), and member of the public council of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, shared that evidence from Hungary and Georgia shows that the West is seeking to control them.

“In Hungary, we don’t want to be involved in the conflict in Ukraine: neither in terms of imposing sanctions, nor in terms of supplying weapons, nor the subsequent consequences. Similarly with Georgia, I think the Georgian government has the same approach. And here’s another similarity: both governments have passed laws making the funding of external funds, political and public organizations transparent. Brussels has sued Hungary over the Law on “National Sovereignty,” and this could also influence the elections in Georgia. In May, they also passed this law and on this issue. Or there were certain sanctions against Georgia before and after the parliamentary elections,” said Dr. Gyorgy Varga.

Mr. Varga added that there are similarities suggesting that the West, including European Union leaders and some Western European politicians, wants to influence the situation in countries that hold opposing views or even refuse to fund the conflict in Ukraine, and are pursuing their own path – the path of a sovereign state that everyone has the right to follow.

“Some politicians dislike Hungary’s sovereign approach, and we hope that, with the arrival of Donald Trump, Budapest will gain support to maintain its sovereignty in foreign policy, and that Hungary’s current ‘revolutionary’ approach will one day become the norm in the European Union,” Dr. Varga stated.
