Goals: Pogba (penalty 31', 45'+1), Martial (penalty 34'), Lingard (48') - Van Persie (83')
The match at Old Trafford on the evening of October 20th saw Pogba and his teammates, representing the new generation of Man Utd, score and crush Fenerbahce, the team of the familiar face of Van Persie.
In the match where Rooney returned to the starting lineup as a central striker, Man Utd didn't create many chances until Fenerbahce gifted their opponents two silly penalties between the 31st and 34th minutes. First, Simon Kjaer fouled Mata, allowing Pogba to open the scoring, and then Martial doubled the lead by winning a penalty himself after Sener Ozbayrakli pushed him.
Trailing by two goals in just four minutes, Fenerbahce became disoriented and made further mistakes, conceding a third goal at the end of the first half. Pogba struck a one-touch shot from outside the penalty area straight into the far corner, leaving goalkeeper Demirel with no chance of saving it.
After the half-time break, Fenerbahce hadn't even had time to recover their spirits before they conceded a fourth goal in the 48th minute. Lingard unleashed a powerful angled shot from just outside the penalty area to seal the match.

Fenerbahce scored a consolation goal late in the match thanks to Van Persie, the star who played a key role in Manchester United's most recent Premier League title win in 2013. The Dutch striker rushed in to tap the ball into the net from close range after a cross from Emenike. The Old Trafford crowd, including former manager Alex Ferguson, rose to their feet to applaud Van Persie for this goal.
Manchester United's emphatic victory over Fenerbahce propelled them to the top of Group A with six points. Dutch side Feyenoord also have six points but are second due to an inferior goal difference. Fenerbahce dropped to third place with four points, while Zorya remain bottom with one point after their 0-1 defeat to Feyenoord last night.
Ahead of the match against Fenerbahce, manager Mourinho declared he would field a strong team to welcome the Turkish opponents, even though they would be playing away at Chelsea this coming Sunday. The Portuguese strategist wasn't just making empty promises, as he included a team full of key players, with only Ibrahimovic missing.
Replacing the Swedish striker was captain Wayne Rooney, who had been a substitute in all three of the last matches. Rooney has fond memories of Fenerbahce, having scored a hat-trick against them on his Manchester United debut in European competition in 2004. Twelve years later, Rooney's biggest contribution in the recent match was his assist for Lingard's fourth goal.

Furthermore, Rooney demonstrated leadership and composure by delegating the penalty kick to Pogba to open the scoring. This allowed the world-record signing to shake off pressure and play comfortably for the remainder of the match, scoring another beautiful goal. Pogba is under immense pressure as Manchester United fans believe he was a poor signing for the team, having yet to make a significant impact recently.
Van Persie's return was also a memorable moment in the vibrant night at Old Trafford. The Dutch striker was chanted as he walked onto the pitch and received applause from the crowd despite scoring against the home team. After more than a year away, Van Persie is still remembered as a familiar face at Man Utd.
