In comments aimed at highlighting the Kremlin's anger over Türkiye's downing of a Russian Su-24 fighter jet on November 24, Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, called Ankara's action "extremely insane."

"No one has the right to shoot down a Russian plane from behind like that," Reuters quoted Peskov as saying on television. He also called the evidence Ankara presented to show that the Russian plane had violated Turkish airspace like a "cartoon."

According to Peskov, this crisis forced Putin to deploy the military in ways that would only be possible during the most tense periods.

"President Putin is mobilizing the military, mobilizing all forces, mobilizing as the circumstances demand," Peskov said.

"The current situation is unprecedented. The challenges facing Russia are unprecedented. Therefore, the president's response is appropriate to this threat."

Peskov also said that President Putin was aware of the proposal for a meeting on the sidelines of the global climate change conference taking place next week in Paris, France, made by his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan. However, he did not say whether the meeting would take place.
