According to regulations, even a one-day delay in vehicle inspection will result in an administrative penalty for the vehicle owner.

What is vehicle inspection?

Vehicle inspection is a process carried out by authorities to check whether a vehicle meets quality standards. The purpose of inspection is to check the vehicle's safety threshold, aiming to minimize the risk of accidents while the vehicle is on the road.

The vehicle inspection validity period is clearly stated on the inspection sticker and affixed directly to the windshield. Most provinces and cities nationwide have vehicle inspection centers.

What is the penalty for being one day overdue on your vehicle inspection?

According to the regulations in Decree No. 123/2021/ND-CP, there are two timeframes for vehicle inspection expiration: less than one month and more than one month, and there is no regulation specifying a minimum daily fine.

Therefore, if a vehicle's inspection certificate expires by one day, it will fall under the category of being overdue by less than one month and will be subject to penalties as per regulations.

However, if the vehicle owner has a valid reason, instead of being fined, they will only receive a warning.

Regarding penalties for delayed vehicle inspection, Clauses 5 and 6, Article 16 of Decree No. 123/2021/ND-CP, as amended by Clause 9, Article 2 of Decree 123/2021/ND-CP, stipulate as follows:

A fine of VND 3,000,000 to VND 4,000,000 shall be imposed for any of the following violations:

a) Driving a vehicle with a safety and environmental technical inspection certificate or sticker that has expired for less than one month (including trailers and semi-trailers);

b) Driving a vehicle with an inadequate braking system, or with an adequate braking system that is ineffective or does not meet safety and technical standards (including trailers and semi-trailers).

In addition to a fine, drivers who commit violations may also be subject to the following supplementary penalties:

c) Committing the acts specified in points a and b of clause 3; clause 4; clause 5; point c of clause 6; and point a of clause 7 of this Article shall result in the revocation of the driver's license for a period of 1 to 3 months;

Therefore, even a one-day delay in vehicle inspection will result in an administrative penalty for the vehicle owner. The penalty ranges from a fine of 3,000,000 to 4,000,000 VND and suspension of the driver's license for 1 to 3 months.

Failure to register a vehicle for inspection by more than one month will result in a fine of 4-6 million VND and suspension of the driver's license for 1-3 months.

The above fines apply to individuals. If the vehicle owner is an organization, the fine for a vehicle whose inspection certificate has expired for less than one month will be 8-12 million VND, and for more than one month, the fine will be 12-16 million VND.
