Iraqi army captures last ISIS stronghold in Ramadi.
On December 27, Iraqi army spokesman Sabah al-Numani announced that Iraqi forces had taken control of the government building in the center of Ramadi – the last stronghold of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization in this western Iraqi city.

Al-Numani declared that controlling the compound showed that ISIS had been defeated in Ramadi. "The compound is completely under our control and there is no longer any ISIS presence there," al-Numani asserted.
Regaining control of Ramadi, a city that fell to IS in May 2015, is one of the most significant victories for the Iraqi armed forces since IS seized a third of the country's territory in 2014.
