Russian troops attack the border region of Sumy, Ukraine.
In response to Ukraine's attack on the Kursk region, Russian troops attacked the Sumy region of Ukraine, which borders Kursk.

According to RIA Novosti on August 24, Sergei Lebedev, coordinator of a pro-Russian organization in Nikolaev, stated that the Russian armed forces carried out numerous attacks on Ukrainian armed forces facilities in Sumy – a Ukrainian territory bordering the Russian Kursk region. Notably, Ukrainian soldiers reportedly deployed to Kursk were attacked.
According to Lebedev, Ukrainian soldiers in the Sumy region moving towards the Kursk region were attacked by two high-explosive airburst bombs (FABs).
"The exact number of fatalities is still unknown, but it's at least 20. The rest, estimated at around 20, were injured; some fled and did not return," said Lebedev.
The resistance coordinator reported that in the village of Bereza, Sumy region, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces have a temporary equipment and ammunition depot, an attack occurred when Russian forces used five FABs simultaneously.
“There is a railway line where military equipment is transported directly from trains into the forest. The intersection of two major highways and an agricultural company is where Ukrainian troops temporarily store ammunition in warehouses,” Lebedev told RIA.
In addition, Russian forces also attacked a military equipment repair plant in Belopolye, which housed 22 tracked vehicles and up to 30 Ukrainian soldiers.
According to Lebedev, in response to attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on civilian targets, the Russian military regularly carries out targeted attacks on positions containing personnel, equipment, and mercenaries, as well as on Ukrainian infrastructure such as energy facilities, defense industry, military command centers, and communications centers.
In addition, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov asserted that Russian troops did not attack residential buildings or social facilities in Ukraine.
