US-Russia relations: The level of distrust is too high.

Bush, believes that Russia and the US have too many divisions in their views on world order, geopolitical interests and values, especially a great deal of mutual distrust. Commenting on the prospects for relations between Moscow and Washington, in the context of the official US election tomorrow (November 3), Graham added that neither American nor Russian politicians and officials are ready to resolve major disagreements to pull bilateral relations out of their current precarious state.
"No champagne bottles were opened on November 3rd. Regardless of who wins the US presidential election, the relationship between the US and Russia will still be damaged by the trouble," expert Thomas Graham commented.
The former White House official also argued that the two countries are too deeply divided by differing views on world order, geopolitical interests, and values. And the lack of mutual trust is so great that it prevents significant progress. The question is, regardless of who in Washington or Moscow is ready, will efforts to end the breakdown of the relationship, which requires concessions from both sides, succeed? "But the answer seems to be nobody at this moment," said Thomas Graham.
Expert Thomas Graham co-authored an open letter published in Politico last August, which included contributions from over 100 experts and diplomatic officials, including retired U.S. government officials. The letter urged Washington to reconsider its policy toward Moscow, warning of the risk of increasingly strained bilateral relations.
The US election will be officially held on November 3rd.
Currently, candidate Joe Biden is leading incumbent President Donald Trump by a margin of 52% to 42% in the Reuters/IPSOS national poll, partly due to public dissatisfaction with the President's handling of the pandemic. Surveys indicate a fierce competition in key battleground states that will determine the election outcome.
