During the resistance war against the French colonialists, implementing the Party's guidelines, under the direct leadership of the Central Region Party Committee, Zone 4 Party Committee, and Inter-zone 4 Party Committee, with the spirit of initiative, creativity, self-reliance, and self-strengthening, the Armed Forces of Military Zone 4 promoted the all-people, comprehensive resistance war, constantly promoted guerrilla warfare, won people, kept land, destroyed the enemy, developed forces, expanded the area, and was the core of building a widespread people's war posture, actively fought and consolidated the rear; at the same time, directly contributed to building and expanding the Vietnam - Laos Fighting Alliance; and coordinated operations with the main battlefield in the North. When the resistance war against French colonialism entered the decisive stage, with the comprehensive, timely and creative leadership of the Inter-Zone Committee 4, the Armed Forces of Military Region 4 were the core in promoting the people's war in the enemy's rear. Together with the entire people, they turned the area of Military Region 4 into a launching base for attacks, leading to victory in the Central - Lower - Laos campaign. At the same time, they focused on building and developing a strong armed force in politics, ideology and organization, acting as the core for the local people and mobilizing human and material resources to promptly support the battlefields. Especially the historic Dien Bien Phu campaign, contributing with the whole country to successfully carry out the resistance war against the invading French colonialists.
During the resistance war against the US to save the country, under the wise and talented leadership of the Party, the education, training and encouragement of President Ho Chi Minh, and directly under the leadership and direction of the Central Military Commission, Military Region 4, Military Region Tri-Thien, and the Party Committee of the Route 9 Front, the Military Region's armed forces were the core for the entire people to fight the enemy, successfully carrying out 4 missions on 3 battlefields.
The armed forces in Tri Thien - Hue carried out combat missions from the very beginning, fighting against the US imperialists and their lackeys who occupied, swept, terrorized, built and developed forces to become an important battlefield, an important direction of attack to destroy enemy forces. During the General Offensive and Uprising in Spring 1968, the Military Region's armed forces, together with the entire people, smashed the US imperialists' defense system to permanently divide our country, took control of Hue City for 26 days and nights; defeated the enemy's large-scale counterattacks, liberated and protected Quang Tri Citadel. Together with other forces, they created the combined strength of people's war, defeated two destructive wars by air force and navy of the US imperialists, participated in building and protecting the strategic corridor of the Truong Son - Ho Chi Minh trail; firmly protect the rear, directly and effectively support the battlefields, coordinate with Lao friends to open the liberation fronts of the Plain of Jars - Xieng Khouang and the Central - Lower - Laos areas. During the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975, the Armed Forces of Military Region 4 formed the core for the people to rise up to liberate Tri Thien - Hue, providing maximum support in all aspects to the battlefields, contributing to the completion of the cause of liberating the South and unifying the Fatherland.
Throughout the two resistance wars against the French and the Americans, under the leadership of the Central Region Party Committee, Zone 4 Party Committee, Inter-zone 4 Party Committee, Military Zone 4 Party Committee, Tri-Thien Military Zone Party Committee, Road 9 Front Party Committee... In any circumstances, no matter how arduous or fierce, the officers and soldiers of the Military Zone 4 Armed Forces still fought steadfastly, excellently completing all tasks assigned by the Party and the army. The spirit of being ready to sacrifice for the country and the people has become the sentiment, responsibility and political mettle of all officers and soldiers of the Military Zone Armed Forces.
