Quang Dung reveals the days filled with tears.

- In recent years, you've performed less frequently in Vietnam, mainly touring overseas. Some people suggest that Quang Dung has settled down, bought a house, and chosen to live primarily in the US. What do you say about this information?

- First of all, I'm happy because of the audience's interest. I think Vietnamese music has a clear division, and the singers are also different classes. Therefore, at any point in time, one should build a solid foundation to be confident in life and decisive about future plans. I'm not young anymore, so I'll do whatever makes me feel good and confident.

- How do you feel the pressure of age is affecting your life and career?

- For artists, age is a concern because everyone fears getting old. Fortunately, I chose to pursue lyrical music, so being meticulous is essential and I can't afford to be frivolous. For me, a person's character and success at each stage of their career are the most important factors. In terms of life, I've prepared a solid foundation for the future, which makes me quite confident and not at all worried about my age.

- Women are more aware of their age when they look in the mirror, but how does Quang Dung react to that realization?

- Honestly, I don't feel that old; I just feel like I'm reaching a point of maturity in my music, my voice, my image, my personality... Before, I was immature, shy, often anxious and pensive. But at this point, I feel very comfortable and confident in my thinking and my way of life.

- After the breakup with Jennifer Pham, Quang Dung seemed to withdraw. Is it because he also had feelings for someone but was too good at hiding them, or because he felt other things were more important and that love wasn't the most important thing he sought, desired, and wanted to dedicate himself to?

Over the past 20 years, I've experienced countless ups and downs and significant events in my life. However, the daily reflection and dedication to providing the best for my grandchildren has made me mature and responsible. I've realized that God doesn't give everything to everyone; everything happens for a reason. If we reflect and behave with integrity and kindness, we will discover many valuable things. I simply strive to do what's best for my family.

But have you truly experienced the thrill of love, or has your heart become hardened?

- I do think about the future, about new happiness, but I believe in fate. So, let romantic relationships take their natural course. Love is something that's essential, because it's the spirit of life. If I become numb or feel no emotional connection, it means I'm no longer myself.

So, as you said, what are the reasons behind these failed relationships?

- Many people have shown me affection, but a future together isn't guaranteed. Two people need empathy and understanding. Past heartbreaks are a psychological barrier for me. But if we truly love each other, we can overcome anything.

Have family responsibilities and caring for many grandchildren ever been a barrier to your romantic relationships? Have family responsibilities made it difficult for you to earn money?

- I thought about it a lot, and it happened. First of all, the other person would understand that I've been through a breakup, I have children, and I have family burdens, making it difficult for them to accept me for a long-term relationship. As for the constant work, I try not to overexert myself or worry too much about finances. The pressure to earn money is really over for me now.

Quang Dung and a happy moment with his son.

He is preparing for a live show scheduled to take place in three locations with three performances: Ho Chi Minh City on March 18, 2017, Hanoi on March 31, 2017, and California, USA on May 14, 2017. What is the reason for him constantly doing shows?

- This is a live show celebrating 20 years of singing, and after that, I want to present to the audience my new path. Usually, in Vietnam, the symphony orchestra is only a part of a live show, but in this show, the symphony orchestra will be present throughout the entire program. That's the new path I will be taking in the future.

Throughout the concert, the story will revolve around a journey from hometown to Saigon in pursuit of dreams and aspirations. Overcoming numerous difficulties and challenges, they have reached this 20th anniversary. It's a very heartfelt story, with a continuous flow of emotions as the songs are interwoven. In the Hanoi live show, the audience will also get to see a segment featuring songs about Hanoi.

Singing solo is difficult, but singing with a symphony orchestra is even harder. Why didn't you choose the easier path instead of making things difficult for yourself? What do you want to convey in "A Dream Named After Myself"?

- I've performed with symphony orchestras in many shows such as: "Ru Tình," "Mùa Thu Hà Nội," and Phú Quang's music programs… I believe that choosing the easy path and singing a safe live show won't convince the audience. Moreover, I'm not enthusiastic about a boring live show marking my 20th anniversary.

Therefore, this collaboration with the symphony orchestra will be a new direction, bringing something unique. "A dream named after myself," I'm only talking about my current dream at 40, a dream bigger than just family, children, and career. I don't like the dream of needing someone to lean on because I'm mature enough already. (laughs)

Thank you for the conversation!
