Forgot password, man smashed ATM screen

Thanh used rocks to smash the screens of two ATMs, went to a phone store to break the glass door, and threw and broke phones.

On September 20, the People's Court of Hong Linh town (Ha Tinh) opened the first instance trial of Nguyen Chi Thanh (40 years old, residing in Bac Hong ward) for the crimes of property destruction and intentional damage to property.

According to the indictment, at around 2 p.m. on June 13, Thanh went to an ATM in the center of Hong Linh town to withdraw money but forgot the password, so he used a rock to smash it to vent his anger. His actions damaged the screens of two ATMs.

Next, the man went to a phone supermarket a few hundred meters away and used a rock to break the glass door. Thanh got inside, took a phone out, and threw it outside to break it.

When Thanh was arrested, authorities determined that he was high on drugs at the time of the crime. The total damage in the two incidents was nearly 70 million VND.

The People's Court sentenced Thanh to 21 months in prison.
