* Also on the morning agenda, the National Assembly will discuss several contentious issues in the draft Law on Statistics (amended).
The Statistics Law was passed by the National Assembly on June 17, 2003, and came into effect on January 1, 2004.
After more than 10 years of implementation, the Statistics Law and its guiding documents have had a positive impact on statistical work; creating a legal basis for statistical activities; affirming the important role of statistical work, the legal status of statistical agencies, and strengthening the effectiveness and efficiency of State management in statistical work.
Thanks to this, statistical information has contributed to helping the Party, the National Assembly, and the Government formulate and manage macroeconomic policies, promote growth, socio-economic development, and solve many problems arising in the country's socio-economic life.
However, the 2003 Statistics Law has also revealed shortcomings compared to the increasingly high demands of analysis, planning, and policy management in the process of the country's international economic integration. This necessitates the early amendment of the Law to address existing problems and obstacles in current statistical activities, meet the requirements of statistical work in the process of reform, and contribute to the fulfillment of socio-economic development tasks.
* Also during today's working session, National Assembly delegates discussed in the plenary hall the assessment of the results of implementing national target programs for the period 2011-2015; and the development and proposal of investment policies for national target programs for the period 2016-2020.
