Japanese parliament conducts evacuation drill to avoid North Korean missile
Japanese parliament officials have decided to conduct the first evacuation drill at a lower house session amid North Korea's missile test, NHK television channel reported.
According to the channel, all 465 deputies had to leave the parliament building after the emergency J-Alert system warned of a possible missile strike, which could cause destruction and damage from glass fragments. Evacuation instructions in the parliament are being given.
Earlier, delegates conducted an evacuation drill in case of a major earthquake, wearing helmets but not leaving the hall.
Evacuation drills in case of a North Korean missile launch have been held on the streets of Tokyo and other Japanese cities.
North Korea has been testing ballistic missiles over Japan and developing nuclear warheads under the pretext of self-defense against threats from the United States. North Korea has accused Japan of deliberately creating tensions to gain changes to its pacifist constitution.
